The Woolsey Fire broke out in Chatsworth on the afternoon of Thursday, November 8, 2018 and reached Malibu early Friday morning. A mandatory evacuation was issued for all of Malibu on Friday, November 9, 2018.
100% containment was reached as of November 22, 2018, with 96,949 acres burned throughout the entire fire zone.

CERT is a highly-acclaimed program of free courses administered by the City of Malibu and by public safety agencies across the country that empowers citizens to help during disasters. Through hands-on training, participants learn the most up-to-date information in basic disaster preparedness, the use of a fire extinguisher, disaster medical care, first aid, search and rescue techniques, disaster psychology and neighborhood team building. CERT volunteers are a crucial part of the City’s ability to prepare and respond to disasters. The program will run on 3 consecutive Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

California State Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara will hold a workshop in Malibu to hear from and respond to residents regarding insurance issues and challenges experienced since the Woolsey Fire. (Rescheduled from January 16)
