The Woolsey Fire broke out in Chatsworth on the afternoon of Thursday, November 8, 2018 and reached Malibu early Friday morning. A mandatory evacuation was issued for all of Malibu on Friday, November 9, 2018.

100% containment was reached as of November 22, 2018, with 96,949 acres burned throughout the entire fire zone.

Emergency Preparedness

  1. CERT Training

    October 10, 2019, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM @ Malibu City Hall

    ***There will be no class on Thursday, September 19 due to a conflicting event.*** CERT is a highly-acclaimed program of free courses administered by the City of Malibu that empowers citizens to help during disasters. Through hands-on training, participants learn the most up-to-date information in basic disaster preparedness, the use of a fire extinguisher, disaster medical care, first aid, search and rescue techniques, disaster psychology and neighborhood team building. CERT volunteers are a crucial part of the City’s ability to prepare and respond to disasters. The program will run on 7 consecutive Thursday evenings from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Participants must complete all 7 classes to receive a certificate of completion.
